One Hour to ONE-der: Creating Spaces Where God’s Wonder Can Take Root

One Hour to ONE-der: Creating Spaces Where God’s Wonder Can Take Root
Whether you attended last year’s breakout or are just joining the fun, we’re continuing the conversation… Kids arrive after a full week of chaos—screens, schedules, and sensory overload—and children’s ministry has just one hour to spark wonder. This session dives into how Gen Alpha’s brains are shaped by digital culture and short attention spans, and how we can make Bible stories stick in that context. Last year, Shara explored Contextual Wonder, making the Bible come alive for kids. This year, we focus on creating space for that wonder to take root—because it isn’t only created through teaching, it’s protected through the spaces, interactions, and guidance we provide. Join Shara to explore how to make your one hour a true hour of ONE-der.
About Shara:
Shara attended Concordia University to receive a BA in Christian Ministries with a minor in Global Cultural Studies. She has served in children’s and youth ministries for 10 years, with a passion for leading teams, training leaders and connecting with students. She and her husband, David, Associate Pastor for the Spanish Ministry at North Coast, enjoy working in ministry together, especially when it comes to global missions. They have three children, ages 8, 6, and almost 2. Shara enjoys reading Christian historical fiction, scrapbooking, or taking care of her 14 chickens.

Every Leader Has a Superpower: From Chaos to Connection
by Steve Nichols
You don’t have to be the loudest, funniest, or most polished leader to make a lasting impact. This breakout is designed specifically for small group leaders and focuses on the everyday moments that shape kids most. We’ll explore how your God-given gifts— combined with consistency, presence, and faithfulness—create powerful connections in small groups, whether that’s at a table or in circles. Leaders will learn why kids remember who showed up more than what was taught, how to build trust and emotional safety through simple small group routines, and how to turn chaotic moments into opportunities for connection. This session will equip small group leaders with practical, repeatable tools to lead confidently, serve faithfully, and use their everyday moments as their true superpower.
About Steve:
With more than 25 years of experience inspiring and teaching young minds, Steve is dedicated to helping church staff and volunteers create meaningful connections between today’s students and God’s story.
