Church Family, we sure do miss you!!!

It’s been 2 weekends now, 2 weekends where we’ve missed seeing all your beautiful faces and warm embraces. Hey that rhymes. Maybe I’m a ‘poet’ and didn’t even ‘know it.’ Okay, I’ll stop now. How are you doing? How steep has your learning curve been adjusting to all this new normal?

I know I’m not that old (despite what my younger, sweet wife may say) but I haven’t experienced anything like this before. And if you are like me, the reality of our current circumstances can make things feel heavier. . . scarier. . .more out of control. However, as followers of Jesus, we know that HE in control because HE is Sovereign. Therefore, no matter how chaotic things may seem, His undeniable and unexplainable PEACE is offered to us – because he LOVES US!

It’s in that context that I pray this email finds you and your family safe and healthy today. Many of you have submitted Prayer Requests via our Digital Communication Card. Please know that we’ve been praying for you and yours. And as we pray, I want you to know that our prayers have been shaped by 3 constant themes:

1. HEALTH – We’ve been praying you, your family and loved ones would remain healthy. And for those who have been sick, we’ve been praying that Jesus himself, who is our great physician, would bring about healing, rest and wholeness.

2. PROVISION – We humbly ask that God would manifest Himself as Jehovah-Jireh, which means ‘the LORD will provide.’ God will provide for you just like he did for Abraham in Genesis 22. In fact, when Abraham calls God Jehovah-Jireh, he isn’t just saying, “God gives the goods!” He is saying, “God, you see/experience all this need of mine and You make provision for it.” God’s ability to care and provide for us is deeply personal. 3. COMMUNITY – The realities of ‘social distancing’ & ‘shelter in place’ have drastically changed the way we experience community. However, we’ve boldly prayed that we wouldn’t just survive this difficult time, we’re praying the Holy Spirit would empower us to THRIVE! And I believe God is answering that prayer in spades. Seriously, I’m so proud of you church. You’re showing the world that the Church was never intended to be defined by a building. You’ve been intentional and innovative in how you’ve been cultivating community. You’ve continued to connect with us and each other. Way to go Church. Way to “BE” the Church!

You know, this is a very special week for our campus because our Soft Launch was exactly one year ago. I remember it like it was yesterday. I also remember not sleeping the night before because I was haunted by the thought of, “What if no one shows up.”

Silly right!?!?! Well, the next morning, over 300 of you showed up. You not only showed up, you showed out! Do you remember that morning? We all joined together in prayer and praise to our king Jesus. The energy, love and support we experienced that morning was incredible. In fact, God’s spirit was so clearly on the move that when we officially opened our doors the following Sunday, more than 700 people got to experience the warmth of North Coast Church.

So, let me be the first to you wish you a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY! That’s right, we turn 1yrs old next week. Keep an eye on both your snail mail and your email for some fun Happy Birthday trinkets and fanfare.

Church, I leave you with the powerful words of the Apostle Paul from Romans 15. This one verse encouraged the first century church in Rome and I pray that Holy Spirit would encourage and minister to you and yours as well.

“May the God of Hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Romans 15:13

Your Friend,
