Bringing healing, clarity and resources to hurting people

The Counseling Center located on the Vista Campus is an extension of the North Coast Church pastoral staff. Its purpose is to bring healing, clarity and resources to hurting people who want to grow through a variety of methods, with a major focus on Christian counseling.

Counseling services are provided by counselors with a variety of degrees and educational backgrounds. Our staff includes licensed marriage family therapists, licensed clinical social workers, licensed psychologists, as well as marriage family therapist interns, and social work assistants. All counselors have a minimum of a master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Theology, or Psychology, with some counselors having a doctoral degree in Psychology.

Counseling services are provided for individuals, couples, families, children and adolescents. Counselors are trained to help in many areas including premarital counseling, marriage counseling, crisis, depression, anxiety, women’s issues, men’s issues, physical abuse and sexual abuse, relationship issues, grief, conflict, divorce recovery, addictive behaviors, anger management, blended family, trauma, eating disorders, parenting, mood disorders, and more.

Services are provided to North Coast Church attendees and the community-at-large. These services have been offered through North Coast since 1996.

Frequently Asked Questions

The North Coast Church Counseling Center is a professional counseling center, and our staff is comprised of credentialed mental health professionals.

Christian counseling combines professional counseling techniques and Scriptural principles in a unique approach to mental health issues.

At North Coast Church, all of the therapists acknowledge personal faith in Jesus Christ.

Our services are available to everyone. We are a Christian-based counseling center, but our approach is to meet people wherever they are in all areas of life.

Fill out the Request Counseling form and we can help you find a counselor and set up an appointment.

You may request a particular therapist. Your preference will be honored if your presenting issue is within their treatment area, and if they have available appointment times.

Generally, your appointment will be within a week or two of your initial call. The time may vary for each therapist.

If you have a life-threatening emergency, call 9-1-1 or your local police department.

The North Coast Church Counseling Center fees for professional services are below that of other mental health practices in the area. Specific fee information will be provided when you call for an appointment.

Since policies and benefits vary greatly, most of our therapists do not deal directly with insurance companies. Clients are responsible for charges which are payable at the time services are rendered.

The length of treatment depends on many factors. It is primarily determined by the nature of the issue and the motivation of the client.

Christian Counseling 101

Christian counseling is the process in which a professional counselor uses the tools of the mental health profession, the truths of the Bible, and the wisdom of life experience to help those in need.

A professional counselor is one who has a graduate degree at the masters or doctoral level and is credentialed by the governing body upon completion of rigorous requirements and examinations. At North Coast Church, this includes psychologists (Ph.D. or Psy.D.), licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFT), and licensed social workers (LCSW).

The tools of the mental health profession include a wide range of techniques and assessments such as individual psychotherapy, marital, family, and group therapy, psychological testing, etc.

The truths of the Bible include all of the teachings of Scripture, and especially those that bear on our relationship with God and with one another. The Bible offers profound truths regarding human nature, sin, redemption, and grace. The Christian counselor measures all other concepts or ideas by the truths of Scripture. Though guided by these teachings, we do not impose our views on our clients, but rather meet them where they are.

The wisdom of life experience is the learning that each counselor and client brings to the counseling situation to aid in the process of understanding or change.

Those in need are the clients who find their way to a counselor’s office. They are adults, children, couples, and families. They may be self-referred, or may come at the suggestion of a pastor, physician, loved one, former client, teacher, or friend. The needs they bring may range from being helped through a career change, to recovering from profound abuse.
