The golden thread that most people miss:

Malachi 4:4-6

"Remember the law of my servant Moses, the decrees and laws I gave him at Horeb for all Israel.
[5] "See, I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and dreadful day of the Lord comes. [6] He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse." [NIV]

Luke 1:17

And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous--to make ready a people prepared for the Lord." [NIV]

What God knows, that we often forget:

Malachi 2:13-16

Another thing you do: You flood the Lord's altar with tears. You weep and wail because he no longer pays attention to your offerings or accepts them with pleasure from your hands. [14] You ask, "Why?" It is because the Lord is acting as the witness between you and the wife of your youth, because you have broken faith with her, though she is your partner, the wife of your marriage covenant.
[15] Has not the Lord made them one? In flesh and spirit they are his. And why one? Because he was seeking godly offspring. So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith with the wife of your youth.
[16] "I hate divorce," says the Lord God of Israel, "and I hate a man's covering himself with violence as well as with his garment," says the Lord Almighty.
So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith. [NIV]

Back to the basics of parenting:

Ephesians 6:1-4

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. [2] "Honor your father and mother"--which is the first commandment with a promise-- [3] "that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth."
[4] Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. [NIV]

Proverbs 13:24

He who spares the rod hates his son,
but he who loves him is careful to discipline him. [NIV]

Proverbs 14:26

He who fears the Lord has a secure fortress,
and for his children it will be a refuge. [NIV]

Proverbs 22:6

Train a child in the way he should go,
and when he is old he will not turn from it. [NIV]

Deuteronomy 6:1-9

These are the commands, decrees and laws the Lord your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, [2] so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the Lord your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life. [3] Hear, O Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the God of your fathers, promised you.
[4] Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. [5] Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. [6] These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. [7] Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. [8] Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. [9] Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. [NIV]

Mark 3:24-25

If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. [25] If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.  [NIV]

Joshua 24:14-15

"Now fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your forefathers worshiped beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. [15] But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord." [NIV]

Ezekiel 18:1-32

The word of the Lord came to me: [2] "What do you people mean by quoting this proverb about the land of Israel:

" 'The fathers eat sour grapes,
and the children's teeth are set on edge'?

[3] "As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, you will no longer quote this proverb in Israel. [4] For every living soul belongs to me, the father as well as the son--both alike belong to me. The soul who sins is the one who will die.

[5] "Suppose there is a righteous man
who does what is just and right.
[6] He does not eat at the mountain shrines
or look to the idols of the house of Israel.
He does not defile his neighbor's wife
or lie with a woman during her period.
[7] He does not oppress anyone,
but returns what he took in pledge for a loan.
    He does not commit robbery
but gives his food to the hungry
and provides clothing for the naked.
[8] He does not lend at usury
        or take excessive interest.
He withholds his hand from doing wrong
and judges fairly between man and man.
    [9] He follows my decrees
        and faithfully keeps my laws.
    That man is righteous;
        he will surely live,

declares the Sovereign Lord.

[10] "Suppose he has a violent son, who sheds blood or does any of these other things [11] (though the father has done none of them):

"He eats at the mountain shrines.
    He defiles his neighbor's wife.
[12] He oppresses the poor and needy.
    He commits robbery.
He does not return what he took in pledge.
    He looks to the idols.
    He does detestable things.
[13] He lends at usury and takes excessive interest.

Will such a man live? He will not! Because he has done all these detestable things, he will surely be put to death and his blood will be on his own head.
[14] "But suppose this son has a son who sees all the sins his father commits, and though he sees them, he does not do such things:

[15] "He does not eat at the mountain shrines
or look to the idols of the house of Israel.
He does not defile his neighbor's wife.
[16] He does not oppress anyone
or require a pledge for a loan.
    He does not commit robbery
but gives his food to the hungry
and provides clothing for the naked.
[17] He withholds his hand from sin
and takes no usury or excessive interest.
He keeps my laws and follows my decrees.

He will not die for his father's sin; he will surely live. [18] But his father will die for his own sin, because he practiced extortion, robbed his brother and did what was wrong among his people.
[19] "Yet you ask, 'Why does the son not share the guilt of his father?' Since the son has done what is just and right and has been careful to keep all my decrees, he will surely live. [20] The soul who sins is the one who will die. The son will not share the guilt of the father, nor will the father share the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous man will be credited to him, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against him.
[21] "But if a wicked man turns away from all the sins he has committed and keeps all my decrees and does what is just and right, he will surely live; he will not die. [22] None of the offenses he has committed will be remembered against him. Because of the righteous things he has done, he will live. [23] Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign Lord. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live?
[24] "But if a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits sin and does the same detestable things the wicked man does, will he live? None of the righteous things he has done will be remembered. Because of the unfaithfulness he is guilty of and because of the sins he has committed, he will die.
[25] "Yet you say, 'The way of the Lord is not just.' Hear, O house of Israel: Is my way unjust? Is it not your ways that are unjust? [26] If a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits sin, he will die for it; because of the sin he has committed he will die. [27] But if a wicked man turns away from the wickedness he has committed and does what is just and right, he will save his life. [28] Because he considers all the offenses he has committed and turns away from them, he will surely live; he will not die. [29] Yet the house of Israel says, 'The way of the Lord is not just.' Are my ways unjust, O house of Israel? Is it not your ways that are unjust?
[30] "Therefore, O house of Israel, I will judge you, each one according to his ways, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent! Turn away from all your offenses; then sin will not be your downfall. [31] Rid yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart and a new spirit. Why will you die, O house of Israel? [32] For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent and live! [NIV]

Acts 8:26-35

Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, "Go south to the road--the desert road--that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza." [27] So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians. This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship, [28] and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the book of Isaiah the prophet. [29] The Spirit told Philip, "Go to that chariot and stay near it."
[30] Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. "Do you understand what you are reading?" Philip asked.
[31] "How can I," he said, "unless someone explains it to me?" So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.
[32] The eunuch was reading this passage of Scripture:

"He was led like a sheep to the slaughter,
and as a lamb before the shearer is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.
[33] In his humiliation he was deprived of justice.
Who can speak of his descendants?
For his life was taken from the earth."

[34] The eunuch asked Philip, "Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?" [35] Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus. [NIV]
