4 KEYS TO A FAMILY MAKEOVER:

1)  Pursue honor.

Exodus 21:15-17

[16] "Anyone who kidnaps another and either sells him or still has him when he is caught must be put to death.
[17] "Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death. [NIV]

Deuteronomy 21:18-21
If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him, [19] his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town. [20] They shall say to the elders, "This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a profligate and a drunkard." [21] Then all the men of his town shall stone him to death. You must purge the evil from among you. All Israel will hear of it and be afraid. [NIV]

Proverbs 30:17
"The eye that mocks a father,
that scorns obedience to a mother,
will be pecked out by the ravens of the valley,
will be eaten by the vultures.  [NIV]

Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. [NIV]

Luke 17:1-2
Jesus said to his disciples: "Things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to that person through whom they come. [2] It would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around his neck than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin. [NIV]

4)  Commit yourself to your child’s development.

Ephesians 6:4b
..... instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. [NIV]

2 Samuel 13:21-27
When King David heard all this, he was furious. [22] Absalom never said a word to Amnon, either good or bad; he hated Amnon because he had disgraced his sister Tamar.
[23] Two years later, when Absalom's sheepshearers were at Baal Hazor near the border of Ephraim, he invited all the king's sons to come there. [24] Absalom went to the king and said, "Your servant has had shearers come. Will the king and his officials please join me?"
[25] "No, my son," the king replied. "All of us should not go; we would only be a burden to you." Although Absalom urged him, he still refused to go, but gave him his blessing.
[26] Then Absalom said, "If not, please let my brother Amnon come with us."
The king asked him, "Why should he go with you?" [27] But Absalom urged him, so he sent with him Amnon and the rest of the king's sons. [NIV]

2 Samuel 18:32-33
The king asked the Cushite, "Is the young man Absalom safe?"
The Cushite replied, "May the enemies of my lord the king and all who rise up to harm you be like that young man."
[33] The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept. As he went, he said: "O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom! If only I had died instead of you--O Absalom, my son, my son!" [NIV]

1 Kings 1:5-6
Now Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, put himself forward and said, "I will be king." So he got chariots and horses ready, with fifty men to run ahead of him. [6] (His father had never interfered with him by asking, "Why do you behave as you do?" He was also very handsome and was born next after Absalom.) [NIV]

Proverbs 22:6
Train a child in the way he should go,
and when he is old he will not turn from it.  [NIV]

Deuteronomy 6:4-9
Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. [5] Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. [6] These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. [7] Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. [8] Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. [9] Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. [NIV]

Proverbs 19:18
Discipline your son, for in that there is hope;
do not be a willing party to his death. [NIV]
