April 24, 2008 Update
Site Work:
Hazard Construction and their subcontractors are moving forward with installing the sewer line from the church property to the connection at Melrose and North Santa Fe.  Once the sewer is installed, they will complete the laying of asphalt on the east side of North Santa Fe, including the main entrance and the final parking lot. Osborne Street between Guajome Lake Road and North Santa Fe will be resurfaced at that time as well, and the traffic signal at that intersection will follow closely behind. Once this asphalt work is done, traffic will be re-routed to the east side of North Santa Fe and the contractor will begin improvements on the west side of the street.
Landscaping: All trees and shrubs have been planted in the parking lot, and now the planting of the shrubs around the perimeter of the site and on the cut slopes has begun.
Buildings: We’ve received the first draft of the bid from Roel Construction and expect to finalize the contract in early May, with construction to begin immediately.

April 1, 2008 Update
As we enter April, trees continue to be planted on the slopes, and shrubs will be planted once the watering systems are powered up to allow for automatic watering. Major road work on North Santa Fe Ave. will continue with installation of underground utilities, which must be finished before the road can be resurfaced and the traffic light can be installed at the intersection of North Santa Fe and Osborne.

March 4, 2008 Update
March proves to be a busy month at the new church property. The parking lot has been asphalted, the water system for fire and irrigation are now complete, and landscaping has officially begun. Guajome Lake Road has been paved from Ramona to Osborne, and improvements along Osborne are well underway. A traffic signal at Osborne and N. Santa Fe will be installed by the end of this month.

February 4, 2008 Update

This month, several landscaping projects will take place. Plants and trees will be installed along Guajome Lake Rd. and many of the cut slopes.  Paving along Guajome Lake Rd., Osborne and N. Santa Fe is scheduled to begin on February 11, and 80% of the parking lot is scheduled for the first paving.

January 7, 2008 Update
All on-site grading is complete, the parking lot curbs are 50% complete, and asphalt is scheduled for the end of month.  Preliminary landscaping work is underway, all irrigation infrastructure is in and sprinkler heads are being installed as curbs are completed. Paving on Guajome Lake Rd and Osborne are scheduled to begin the week of January 21.

October 30, 2007 Update
Our new building project is on schedule, and we're currently pulling a building permit to inspect the underground utilities (storm drains, sewer, trenching, power, phone cable, water supply, etc). The shell designs of our two principle buildings have been submitted to the city, and interior designs will be completed by December. Road improvements are also currently taking place along N. Santa Fe.

August 30, 2007 Update
We will be pulling off-site permits this week, and road work and utilities under the road will begin September 4. This is good news! Significant improvements will be made to North Santa Fe (including the widening of the street) that will be a tremendous benefit to traffic circulation for the immediate and surrounding areas.

July 2007 Update
A quick drive past North Santa Fe makes it apparent that a lot is happening over at our new church property! The entire property is currenlty under development. Graders are removing the top few feet of alluvium soil, which is unstable creek bed soil, and replacing it with quality dirt to create a solid foundation for laying pavement in the parking lots. Crews will also begin mining decomposed granite located near the hill where we had the church baptism a few years ago.

"We'll set that aside and use that to backfill trenches to create stability," says Steve Ahlquist, Executive Director of Ministry Resources. "Using granite that's already located on the property could potentially save us $200,000- $500,000, so we are very hopeful that the quality of the granite is up to par."

The silt fences that are located just inside the property lines are also being moved back to the street - a requirement of the Clean Water Act. This prevents rain from washing dirt from the construction site down the street and into storm drains and the water supply.

"We're not expecting rain in the next few months, but we're still required to do that," adds Ahlquist.

The next large milestone that needs to be reached is obtaining our offsite permits that have yet to be approved by the City of Oceanside and the County of San Diego. Then we will begin the road improvements on North Santa Fe, which includes increasing the amount of lanes, and installing stop lights at the entrance of the property and the intersection at Osborne and North Santa Fe.

"We're probably about a month away, give or take," says Ahlquist. "We'll be improving North Santa Fe from south of Osborne, all the way north to Melrose. By September, this should be happening."

Building pads will begin to take shape by mid- September, and road improvements should be completed by the end of the year. Buildings are set to begin construction in early 2008.

Please pray that we continue to have a good relationship with the City of Oceanside and the County of San Diego, and continue to make progress with them. Pray that they finalize the offsite permits so that we can begin construction in the next three weeks. Expect current property updates on a regular basis during the entire construction process!

Updates will be released as they come along, so keep an eye out for more announcements in the near future.  Also, please pray that the process continues to go smoothly.

In the last 12 months, $2.3 million has been given to the More Than a Building campaign.  Our two most recent fundraisers, the North Coast Church 100-Hole Shootout Golf Tournament and the Christmas tree sales, raised more than $75,000.
