Missions Focus: Students International, Inc.
Headquartered in Colorado Springs, CO, International Students, Inc. is one of the most innovative and strategic missions organizations in operation. In cooperation with local churches, ISI seeks to share the love of Christ with the 700,000 international students at American colleges and universities. ISI disciples the students who receive Christ and equips them to return home as unofficial missionaries to their own people. Many return to countries where traditional missionaries cannot go.
Daphne and Howard Killion have served with ISI since 1989, after returning from another ministry in China. Since 1995, Howard has served as editor and writer for ISI’s National Training Team, and in the last three years has become ISI’s coach for new staff candidates. In 2004 the Lord enabled him to write an evangelistic Bible study, “Jesus Christ: A Bible Study in Simple English.” It’s available free and downloadable at www.isionline.org. Select in turn “Resources,” “Free Materials,” and “Bible Studies.” This publication is being used by ISI returnees, missionaries, and other Christian workers around the world.
More recently Howard has written one-page answers to a series of about 20 basic life questions for inquiring international students and others. These questions include: “Why do people suffer?” “What is God like?” “Are all religions the same?” “Am I good enough to go to heaven?” “Does God answer prayer?” “Who is Jesus?” “Is the Bible true?” “Can I know God personally?” These answers are also free and downloadable at www.internationalstudents.org; select “KGP.” The Web Site has had 1.2 million hits (inquiries) in its first 10 months since its opening last year,” says Howard.
The couple moved to Oceanside, CA in 2003 and joined North Coast Church almost immediately. Daphne volunteers at one of NCC’s Information Booths. Howard serves as co-leader of a Growth Group and as a helper in kindergarten/first grade. Howard is currently exploring ways for NCC to reach out to the many international students at Mira Costa College. ISI currently has serious financial needs; they would be grateful if people would pray to stand with them for $25, $50 or $100 per month to help remedy their $1,000 monthly shortfall.
