These two wrote the book on active seniors! Carol & David Finkas not only participate in practically every LaF function NCC has to offer, but are seasoned world travelers.

Married 51 years, the dynamic duo met at Atherton Baptist Church in Los Angeles. David pursued his career in the Aerospace industry while Carol gave back as a teacher. Living a life characterized by miracles Carol explains how their two children Tim and Stephanie were both born with medical challenges and were not expected to live, but the good Lord intervened, and today both kids are grown and married. Carol & David have 2 grand-boys, one of whom just earned the Order of the Arrow in Boy Scouts. 

They raised their family in Carson, California.  Transplanted to Oceanside through their daughter’s attachment to Camp Pendleton they had the good fortune of looking at a home for sale in Guajome Lake that was owned by Laf’ers Charles & Connie Burton. Carol and Connie immediately hit it off with their common interest in quilting and crafting. The Burtons invited the Finkases to a LaF luncheon. As God’s guidance would have it Chris Brown was the speaker, and Carol and Dave returned on Sunday for more teaching ala Pastor Chris. Now you can find them every Saturday night, (when they’re in town) at Country Gospel.

Carol says, “David and I have Gypsy Feet.” They are always off on another adventure. Carol has turned her love for arts and crafts into a very sweet opportunity teaching beading classes aboard cruise ships. Packed and ready to go at a moments notice, she and David travel first class by sea all over the world. Their dream vacations included a trip to Antarctica for Carol and African Safari for Dave.

Dave’s hobbies include astronomy, computers and singing. Carol spends her hobby time immersed in crafting and her Apple computer users group.
When asked if there is a Scripture or event that has profoundly affected their lives, Dave shares one of his favorite memories of the Holy Spirit moving in his life when he attended a men’s retreat and sang, “How Great Thou Art” with a group of 300 other men. His heart moved mightily that day.

Many years ago in Sunday school, Carol chose a Scripture to guide her, “Choose this day who you will serve, but as for me and my house we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15. Carol and David Finkas are best friends serving the Lord together through the power of love and friendship. Thanks for all you give back to LaF!       Paula Blazak
